Alexia Cadenas is a dedicated and compassionate Registered Clinical Social Work Intern with both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Social Work from Florida Atlantic University, where she is a proud dual alumna. Alexia was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale in South Florida.

With over 6 years of experience in the social work field, Alexia began her career in case management and progressively transitioned into clinical practice, driven by a deep passion for supporting youth and families. Throughout her career, Alexia has worked with a diverse range of populations, including individuals with disabilities, at-risk youth, child welfare, DJJ, substance abuse and mood disorders. Her experience spans multiple settings such as community outreach and prevention, dual-diagnosis treatment (Detox, Residential, PHP, IOP) and peer mentoring. She has supported many clients facing complex and various challenges. Alexia is particularly passionate about empowerment and advocacy for mental health awareness and equity.

Her therapeutic approach incorporates evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Trauma-Focused Therapy, and Psychodynamic Therapy. In addition to her clinical work, Alexia serves on the NASW Southwest Florida Steering Committee and is a Board Member of Champions Empowering Champions, a nonprofit organization based in Boca Raton, FL, that supports college students who have experienced foster care or homelessness. As an alumna of the organization since 2019, she brings lived experience and a unique perspective to her advocacy and leadership.

Alexia’s areas of specialty include: Addiction, Self-Harm, Anxiety, Depression, Social media-related challenges, Legal Issues, Juvenile Justice, At-Risk Youth, Life Transitions, Inner child work, School Performance, and Complex Co-occurring Disorders.

With a heart for healing and a commitment to social justice, Alexia continues to make a meaningful impact in the lives of those she serves.
